"The Burl that Wanted To Be a Bittern"
On April 27, 2013, Comox Valley artist Lynn Branson won her third World Championship in Interpretive Carving at the 43rd Ward World Championship, held in Ocean City, Maryland. Lynn joins an elite group as a back-to-back winner with her carving, "The Burl that Wanted To Be a Bittern," sculpted from a Western Red Cedar burl, depicting an American Bittern in a dramatic, defensive display. The Ward Foundation Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury, Maryland, will display the carving in their Championship Gallery for one year.
